At first reading of this verse, I originally thought that it was mentioning the splitting, or dividing of the land masses of the earth, But upon further research, I now believe that this was a mention of the dividing of the languages of the people of the earth.

Taking a look at the next chapter, 11, begins the story of the Tower of Babble. After that is the full accounting of the lineage of Shem, all the way to Abraham. If an accounting of the dates is made from the time of the flood, to the time of Peleg, we find that 101 years passed.

Ge 11:10 ¶ These are the generations of Shem: Shem was an hundred years old, and begat Arphaxad two years after the flood:

11 And Shem lived after he begat Arphaxad five hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.

12 And Arphaxad lived five and thirty years, and begat Salah:

13 And Arphaxad lived after he begat Salah four hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters.

14 And Salah lived thirty years, and begat Eber:

15 And Salah lived after he begat Eber four hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters.

16 And Eber lived four and thirty years, and begat Peleg:

In 100 years the descendents of Shem Ham and Japeth would have grown in number enough that they would have had the manpower to begin construction on the tower of Babble.    Peleg may very well have been named in commemoration of this event taking place.

Ge 10:25 And unto Eber were born two sons: the name of one was Peleg; for in his days was the earth divided; and his brother's name was Joktan.

There are many more references that can be posted on this subject, which would require much more room, and time, and maybe at some point I will expound on this subject. But let me say, Scripture must interpret scripture, that is the only way to have continuity in all things, I am a man that is imperfect, and unwilling to state my own opinions as law. If anyone questions my notations on this web site, Please research these subjects on your own, and take the comments of man as just that, comments, because only the perfect Word of God, can show itself as being perfect.

SO when were the land masses separated? Well, more will be added on that subject at a later date…

Generations of Noah

Ge 10:25 And unto Eber were born two sons: the name of one was Peleg; for in his days was the earth divided; and his brother's name was Joktan.
